This Northern Germany trip is designed for aviation photographers who want to focus on capturing seom great military flying (from types that will soon be gone!), in a structured but relaxed small group.
We begin the tour at Schleswig Air Base, positioning ourselves for both afternoon and morning shooting. This location is one of the best remaining locations in Europe to photograph operational Tornados. With the aircraft nearing retirement, opportunities to capture them in active service are becoming more limited.
Photographing Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 33 offers the opportunity to capture fast jet movements in typical day-to-day conditions (taxi shots, recoveries, and circuit work). We have two separate sessions here at the regular locations off the base, designed to give you multiple opportunities.
The trip then builds towards the Bundewehr Open Day at Nordholz Naval Aviation Base, adding a different dimension with access to a wide range of aircraft (including the last Germany Navy Lynx types, and other rarities) both static and airborne. This is a chance to vary your portfolio of rare machines including detailed ground shots, wider display images, and air-to-ground compositions... All in a single day!
Later in the trip, we spend time at Wittmund Air Base, home of the Luftwaffe’s Eurofighter operations.
What sets this trip apart is the balance between structured photography and an easy-going group atmosphere. Travel is fun and flexible to adjust positioning as required, and the group size ensures everyone has space and time to shoot effectively.
Evenings are deliberately kept informal, as is the COAP way... Shared meals, reviewing the day’s images, and discussing plans for the next location in a social atmosphere.
Overall, this is a trip aimed at photographers who value access, timing, and variety combining fast jet operations, a major aviation event, and a well-paced itinerary that keeps the focus firmly on getting strong images while enjoying the experience.
