An aviation photography tour of Italy covering the early days of aviation, modern jets and the thrills of a classic Wrecks and Relics road trip.
We meet up as a group at Rome Airport on Saturday 25th April and after collecting our transport head to our overnight stop on the shores of Lago di Bracciano.
Day 2 (Sunday) - you will travel the short distance to the Italian Air Force Museum at Vigna di Valle. We will spend the day here before leaving to travel onto our overnight stop on the outskirts of Florence. Across all our travels during the week we will have an eye on various aircraft wrecks and aviation relics that are on or close to our driving route.
On Monday morning, we continue northwards to Ghedi Air Base, currently home to the 6º Stormo of the Italian Air Force with the 102º Gruppo (Papero) with F-35A Lightning II, the 154º Gruppo (Diavoli Rossi) with F-35A Lightning II and the 155º Gruppo (Le linci) with Tornado ECR. We will photograph from the perimeter and observe the movements of the based aircraft.
Tuesday sees us drive through across the country in sight of the Dolomite Mountains and visit the world-famous Fondazione Jonathan (The Jonathan Collection), an Italian historical aviation foundation, particularly focused on World War I aircraft preserving and demonstrating historic planes and handmade replicas, in an immersive experience into early aviation.
Day 5 (Wednesday) sees us around the perimeter of the important NATO Air Base at Aviano. Home to the F-16’s of the 555th Fighter and the 510th Fighter Squadrons as well as HH-60G Pavehawks of the 56th Rescue Squadron and any visiting NATO partners. At the end of the day, we return to the same hotel as the previous night.
During our last day as we head back towards Bologna Airport, we will intensify our search for various aircraft wrecks and relics along our route, pulling off the beaten track as necessary. Once back at Bologna, we will depart on late afternoon flights for home.
This trip is offered as Land Only (From £1495pp in a shared twin room). There is a £500pp supplement to upgrade to single room accommodation.
Flight quotes are available from your airport of choice and the timings must align with the above as closely as possible to ensure logistical arrangements. Do not book your flights without confirming with us first.
