BUT ACCOMODATION AROUND 40KM AWAY FROM THE 100TH AIR SHOW CELEBRATIONS WITH
A DAILY TRIP INTO THE EVENT.
Sweden 100 is a spectacular nine-day trip built around the Swedish Air Force centenary and the Swedish aviation atmosphere you don’t get anywhere else. We base ourselves in Linköping for the centenary airshow at Malmen (surely one of the events of the year!), covering the arrivals, the main display weekend, and the departures after the event, using a great hotel that's a stone's throw from the base. As you can imagine, accommodation in a small town during such a large event (in the height of summer) is a huge factor here!
After the show, we then stay in-country and follow the 100 years of history with our cameras. Museums, collections, and preserved airframes that still feel connected to the places they belong.
Oh yes indeed, the second half of the trip is what we’ve been calling the Viggen Hunt! Getting on the road, tracking down the strongest, best-presented examples we can, and giving them enough time for some VERY special, productive shoots.
Note 1: During the period at the 100th Anniversary Air Show, this trip is based in the nearby town of Linköping. Accommodation options are strictly limited due to the demand and twin share accommodation is not available for this trip.
Note 2: The other COAP trip is the 'standard' option, using hotels further out of the area to drop the costs.
Note 3: If you want a short and sharp trip to the airshow only, then we are running a short trip under our IAAT brand, found HERE)
This trip has two clear aims.
First, spend serious time at Linköping/Malmen for the Swedish Air Force centenary airshow. It’s a rare chance to photograph a major milestone in a country that ‘made it’ on home turf, with all the SAAB presence and Swedish presentation that makes the event feel special.
Second, use the rest of the week to chase history across Sweden in something of a ‘Viggen Hunt’: museums, collections, airfield heritage and preserved aircraft that are part of how Sweden remembers its air force. The Viggen Hunt is exactly that - a focused run to the best examples we can reach, shot in the best way possible.
You will not come home with a better set of images any other way!
We start with a group meet in Stockholm, then transfer to the Linköping area. Once we’re in place, the days are built around the airshow schedule: arrivals from vantage points when they start to stack up, the two main show days, and then the departures from airfield vantage points.
After Linköping, the trip turns into a proper tour. We keep drive times realistic, build in stops that add photography value, and protect enough downtime that you still feel like you’re on having a great time by day nine.
The anchor is the 100th Anniversary airshow ‘Jubileumsflygdagar’ at Malmen, Linköping (22–23 August 2026).
Beyond the confirmed dates and location, we all know that airshow display content, international participation and flying programmes can evolve right up to the event, and operational reality always has the final say. That said, we're all dearly hoping for the full participation by the legendary Swedish Historic Flight!
The post-show section is built around dependable aviation heritage: museums and collections where you can work light, angles and detail at your own pace without relying on a flying programme. There’s always something worth photographing well.
We have some very, very special plans for this period!
This is a trip for photographers who like to build a cohesive set of images, not just grab a highlight.
Airshow days give you fast-moving action, atmosphere and the small details that glue a whole 100th celebration together. The arrivals and departures windows can be especially rewarding when light and patterns line up, and we’ll brief positioning so people can make informed choices with lenses (long zoom/primes, for sure).
After the show, the photography gear changes. Museums and collections become about shape and design, cockpit framing, weathered surfaces, signage and context. It rewards careful composition, and the willingness to return to a subject when the light improves. All will be tightly packed in low light, so you’ll need a wide angle and a decent reliance on high ISO. Most people come away with stronger work simply because the trip structure offers so much variety and time to think about the purpose of your shots.
Like all COAP Wings trips, this one is as much about the week you have as the images you bring home. The group is small, friendly, and aviation-focussed. Evenings are relaxed: cards backed up, cameras charging, and conversation that drift between aircraft, kit, travel, and whatever the day offered.
Sweden is also an easy country to travel in as a group. That helps the mood. Less friction, less stress, more headspace to enjoy the day and the company.
We manage the moving parts so you can focus on the aviation and your photography. That means clear daily plans, realistic timings, and calm decision-making when conditions change.
At Linköping, we’ll talk through positioning and how the day is likely to unfold, so you’re not guessing where to be when it matters. On the road-trip section, we keep the travel smooth: sensible departure times as necessary, planned stops, and enough breathing space that it doesn’t feel like constant packing and unpacking. If plans need to change because of operational or logistical factors, we’ll change them transparently and with the goal of getting the best day on the ground.
If Linköping for the Swedish AF 100th Anniversary Airshow has been on your radar, this is the way to do it with people who understand exactly what matters. The airshow is the anchor, and the Viggen Hunt is what turns it into a Swedish aviation story rather than a "fly-in, watch & leave" trip.
However, we do recognise that time is precious so we have a short, in and out hit on the show available through our sister aviation tour brand, IAAT. Click here for the short tour option.
This page is for the full tour with Upgraded Hotel / Base Proximity option. Due to minimal local availability there is no twin share accommodation available (single room rate only).
Flight quotes are available from your airport of choice and the timings must align with the above as closely as possible to ensure logistical arrangements. Do not book your flights without confirming with us first.

Gear notes
Expect a mix of outdoor airshow shooting and indoor museum/collection work. A long zoom is the workhorse for flying and arrivals/departures, backed up by a mid-range zoom for wider “story” images and static details. Bring spare batteries, plenty of cards, and a simple rain cover just in case. Late August can still throw quick weather changes and big swings in light across long outdoor days.
Travel notes
Single room supplement included (no twin-share option available).
This trip is Land Only; flights can be quoted on request.
Please don’t book flights until the trip is confirmed as going ahead and your timings are aligned with the group meeting point and transfers.
Travel documents and travel insurance are your responsibility, and appropriate travel insurance is required from the time of booking.
