Following on from the success of last year's first engineering/overhaul photoshoot, we are delighted to offer another visit to the incredible Vulcan Restoration Trust (VRT) and its dedicated volunteers.
COAP photographers will have special access into the Vulcan XL426 maintenance hangar at Southend Airport on Saturday 17th January for unique scenes. We will recreate scenes with a group of re-enactors, representing RAF service personnel as if they were working on the aircraft during its service life. A fantastic accompaniment to the 'live' Vulcan shoots in the usual calendar! A real portfolio-builder.
Subject to the XL426 maintenance programme schedule, we aim to recapture as many genuine engineering scenes as possible in the hangar. Working on the undercarriage, under the wings, on the wing, in the bomb bay, with brake disc assemblies, etc... You get the idea, just like you were there some 50... Yes, fifty years ago!
Similar to the last shoot we should be able to document the paperwork service trail and tool room aspects of RAF maintenance operations as realistically as possible. Clean shoots with no people will also be possible.
We also hope to add a behind-the-scenes briefing on the organisation and just what it takes to keep a Vulcan alive in 2026!
Photographer numbers will be limited due to the restrictions imposed by this being a 'live' operating engineering space so if you are interested in this opportunity please let us know as soon as possible! Due to the nature of the work being undertaken and the safe areas in which we can operate, we anticipate a maximum of 20 people will be allowed to attend the event.
This type of opportunity does not come along too often at all, so don’t miss this chance to visit the Vulcan team at Southend during winter maintenance.
Our visit will include fascinating insight from the Vulcan Restoration Trust Team into the work involved in keeping a Vulcan ‘Live’ and the opportunity to acquire some of the ever popular Vulcan merchandise.
Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your Vulcan portfolio and let us know of your interest today.
The exact itinerary and joining instructions to follow.
