COAP Heritage Wings Photoshoot - English Electric P1, Manston, Kent
Saturday 1st August
COAP Heritage Wings is delighted to offer a unique, exclusive opportunity to photograph one of Britain's most historically significant military aircraft before it takes its place on public display.
Join us at Manston for a very special heritage photography event with English Electric P.1B XA847, the sole surviving prototype representative of the aircraft that would evolve into the legendary Lightning fighter. Following several years in storage, the aircraft is currently undergoing preparation for exhibition and public display, making this a rare opportunity to capture the airframe during a pivotal chapter in its remarkable story.
Throughout the event, photographers will have the opportunity to photograph XA847 as a standalone aircraft, highlighting its distinctive lines and historic detail, as well as taking part in specially arranged heritage scenes featuring period re-enactors portraying test pilots, engineers and Air Ministry officials. These authentic recreations will evoke the atmosphere of Britain's golden age of aviation development and provide a unique photographic perspective seldom available to enthusiasts.
As the foundation of Britain's first truly supersonic fighter, XA847 is no ordinary aircraft – not even 'just another Lightning'. It stands as a lasting symbol of the innovation, engineering excellence and manufacturing capability that defined the British aviation industry during the Cold War era.
Whether your interest lies in aviation history, heritage photography or simply capturing a truly significant aircraft before it is publicly unveiled, this promises to be a memorable and highly exclusive photographic experience.
